Cool Weather

Central Texas isn’t known for cool weather, even during the winter. Winter usually means the daytime temps may dip into the 60s and we get some rain. It’s more like the spring or autumn weather other places get.

Don’t get me wrong – It’s a beautiful break from the hot and humid days of summer, and even the 80s we see in spring.  Temperatures dipping into the 40s and 50s at night means it’s time to use the fireplace that sits unused most of the year.

This year, we’ve had downright cold weather – a real winter – at least by our standards.  In the 15 years I’ve lived here, we’ve had snow maybe 6 times. Three of those were this winter. It was just enough snow to be pretty – to close schools and business for a day or two, but not enough to really disrupt things.

I grew up in the mid-west – snowy winters until I was 9. Then I lived in California for years. Three years in Nebraska and Kansas were enough to convince me that I didn’t want to live someplace that had a regular “winter.”  But sometimes I miss it, so this winter has been a nice change.

For me, the cooler than normal weather and the three snowfalls have been beautiful.
